Library extension opens with 24/7 study floor

The Old Library extension is now open, adding a 24/7 study floor, 200 seats and a digitisation lab used by the Department of History & Archaeology.

The extension wraps the historic reading room in a glass-and-timber shell, leaving the 19th-century facade visible from inside. The new around-the-clock floor answers the most persistent student request of the past decade: somewhere on campus to work after midnight during exam weeks.

The digitisation lab on the ground floor is already in use — its first major project is scanning the finds documentation from the Skellvik excavation, making the material available to researchers worldwide.

An open evening with guided tours of the extension takes place during the Northlight Open Day in October.
